Cathartic

A cathartic is a substance that causes evacuation of the bowels. Also known as a purgative, a cathartic has a stronger action than a laxative, which strictly speaking causes softening of stools, easing defacation. Cathartics were once often used, especially in cases of poisoning, but are not well regarded in modern times.
